Sir Peter Blake and Bentley collaborate on a unique car for charity

What happens when the artist that masterminded the cover of The Beatles’ Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band meets the refined elegance of one of Britain’s most-beloved motoring marques? A Pop Art Bentley, that’s what.

Embarking on a magical mystery tour across Great Britain ahead of its auction for charity by Bonhams at the Goodwood Festival of Speed June 24, 2016, this one of a kind 4-litre Bentley Continental GT V8 S Convertible has been given a technicolour lift by Sir Peter Blake, a pioneer of British Pop Art.

Bright and bold, the focus is on the large St James Red heart hand painted onto Continental Yellow bonnet, tying into the charity that will be the grateful recipient of the auction’s proceeds – the Care2Save Charitable Trust that focuses on providing palliative and hospice care worldwide. The perky motif is made all the more striking by vivid uses of colour – a fuchsia pink radiator shell, a body of bespoke St Luke’s Blue shade and a lower body of British Racing Green. Even the seats are quaintly mismatched – varying shades of leather given fancy names: Cumbrian Green, Imperial Blue, Newmarket Tan and Hotspur – with Sir Peter’s name stitched into the headrests.

Bentley and Sir Blake hope that the auction will raise up to £1 million (RM5.7 million) for the charity. We certainly hope so too, because this striking car that is guaranteed to make one smile deserves to make millions of others smile as well.
