Baume & Mercier Clifton Club Shelby Cobra Limited Edition

The year was 1964, and the Shelby Daytona Coupe had become the first American car to emerge victorious at a Le Mans 24 hour race. Over 50 years later, Daytona Coupe artist Peter Brock puts pen to paper alongside manufacture design director Alexandre Peraldi to birth the Clifton Club Shelby Cobra Limited Edition collection.

The range is topped by the flyback chronograph (RM33,000) seen here, limited to 196 pieces – the top speed in miles per hour achieved by the Daytona Coupe on the Mulsanne straight of Le Mans. This figure is also highlighted in red along the tachymeter scale on the outer dial, flanking 4 o’clock with the date window.

Aesthetic tributes to the old beast include a bi-colour dial to match the car’s tail, chronograph pushers inspired by pedals, the iconic Cobra logo hanging off the red chronograph seconds hand and an oscillating rotor copied right off the wheel.
