The Urwerk UR-110 RG, worn by Robert Downey Jr., causes quite a stir

the watch worn by the actor in spiderman: Homecoming was sold at the Phillips Geneva Watch Auction:Seven.

Seen by millions of viewers during its silver screen debut in Marvel’s blockbuster film, Spiderman: Homecoming, a rare and extraordinary Urwerk UR-110RG timepiece recently sold for CHF150,000 (RM592,467) at Phillips’ Geneva Watch Auction: Seven in early May. Personally identified by Downey Jr. – himself a fan of avant-garde Swiss watchmaker Urwerk – as a perfect fit for his genius billionaire-turned-superhero role, the watch featured regularly on Tony Stark’s wrist throughout the film.

Crafted in limited edition, 18-karat pink gold – Iron Man’s signature colour – and PVD-treated titanium, the automatic wristwatch (complete with an alligator strap) even appeared as a functional gadget for Iron Man in one memorable scene. Within this asymmetrical watch sat a brilliant take on the wandering hours complication, complete with satellite time display, day/night indication, and oil change indication, while its limited edition and numbered status rendered it all the more more attractive and collectible.

Only 55 pieces of its kind were made when the UR-110 was launched seven years ago (all of which were sold), while this particular model was recently discontinued by Urwerk, making the UR-110RG a highly sought-after collectors’ piece. It’s also worth nothing that the sale of the superhero’s watch has helped raise funds for Manusodany – a non-profit organisation that funds development projects for underprivileged populations in Haiti.
