  • Mandarin Grill at Mandarin Oriental, Kuala Lumpur presents 1-Michelin Star Chef Mario Cittadini of Il Postale, Italy from 11 to 14 January 2017 for an exclusive series of Italian gourmet delicacies.

    Raised in Tuscany, Italy, Cittadini began his culinary journey in a restaurant in his hometown, Arezzo, before moving to pursue international stints in fine dining restaurants across the world which includes Norway, USA, Spain, Australia and China. Through his 16 years of extensive culinary experience, Cittadini has cultivated an intense passion for food, wine, and travel. As a native Italian, he is devoted to carrying forward Italian traditions and flavours however, by constantly keeping up with the latest culinary trends, he adopts modern cooking styles which give the same ingredients a completely new twist and surprise guests with an upscale and unique taste of Italy.

    Not only is he gifted with an innate epicurean flair, Cittadini also have a distinct talent in turning ordinary produce into plates of decadent cuisine. Italy is known for its wide variety of gourmet choices, and in Tuscany, the most notable characteristics of its cuisine is its simplicity. Tuscan cuisine does not use complicated seasonings or elaborate creations instead it is prepared using fresh, high quality ingredients that bring out the natural flavours in each dish.

    Gastronomists of Kuala Lumpur will be treated to a 3-, 4- and 5-course menu for lunch while dinner will see 5- and 7-course menus. A la carte dishes are also available.

    Polipo e patate – Charred octopus salad, saffron and lemon potato emulsion

    Cappesante – Seared Hokkaido scallops, braised romaine lettuce, passion fruit, bottarga

    Uovo – Slow-poached organic egg, liquid salad, shrimps spezzatino, anchovy and herbs vinaigrette

     

    Primi piatti

    Fettucine – Handmade tagliolini, grandma’s meatballs ragout

    Tortelli – Parmesan emulsion, black truffle caviar

    Risotto – Black squid ink, smoked oyster, grilled squid

     

    Secondi piatti

    Brasato – Slow-braised Australian beef cheek, mashed potatoes, crispy leeks

    Merluzzo – Poached Atlantic cod fish, childhood memory white sauce – oil, cod juices, lemon

    Pollo – Chicken breast “chaud-froid", savoy cabbage, black truffle

     

    Dolci

    Mimosa – White chocolate biscuit, lemon curd, camomile sorbet

    Tarteletta al cioccolato – Warm dark chocolate, salted caramel vanilla ice cream

    Insalata di astice – Lightly smoked Boston lobster, pear, turnip, miso consommé

    Cappesante – Seared Hokkaido scallops, braised romaine lettuce, passion fruit, bottarga

    Risotto – Special selection rice, Jerusalem artichokes, green apple, black truffle

    Merluzzo – Atlantic cod fish fillet confit, watercress, long beans, sea urchin, almond milk

    Brasato – Slow-braised Australian beef cheek, mashed potatoes, crispy leeks

    Tiramisu – Espresso, mascarpone, chocolate textures

    7-course set menu at RM 388 nett per person

    Granchio e Pomodoro – Seared king crab, crab paste, spicy tomato infusion

    Cappesante – Seared Hokkaido scallops, braised romaine lettuce, passion fruit, bottarga

    Ravioli – Tomato confit, green peas, burrata, langoustine crudo

    Lasagna – 25 layers, Neapolitan ragout, scamorza cheese fondue

    Uovo – Poached egg, onion, mushroom soil, potatoes, truffle

    Merluzzo – Atlantic cod fish fillet confit, watercress, long beans, sea urchin, almond milk
