The Chris and Charly’s Chocolate Factory at Nihiwatu

Nihiwatu, the inimitable resort in Indonesia that is recognised as one of the best in the world, will be opening the Chris and Charly’s Chocolate Factory, inviting all chocoholics to indulge in the experience. Through Nihiwatu’s own chocolate factory, Chris Burch, owner of Nihiwatu, and Charly Esperito have invited the Sumbanese to work together with them in this project, initiating the use of local cacao and coconut palm sugar as main ingredients.

Visitors to the chocolate factory will have unrestricted access to both the factory and the playground. The chocolate factory produces three types of chocolate bars: the 65% Milk Chocolate Almonds and Raisins, 70% Dark Chocolate and 85% Dark Chocolate to suit the taste buds from every age. The chocolate bars are available for purchase at the Nihiwatu Gift Shop with contributing profits to The Sumba Foundation.

Inside the factory, guests can join live demonstrations and tastings with Nihiwatu’s own chocolate wizard explaining the process of chocolate making from plant to chocolate bar. The chocolate factory is adjacent to the kid’s club at the resort with dedicated babysitters and activities. Both indoor and outdoor activities are provided, including board games, traditional Sumbanese dancing, Bahasa classes, organic garden and farm tours, scavenger hunts, sand castle making, kid’s yoga and mask making from 10.00am – 5.00pm daily.
