Bali’s Hottest Tables

Robb Report Malaysia’s favourite restaurants and watering holes on the Island of the Gods

Barbacoa
Sizzling on Bali’s dining scene, the Latin American-inspired Barbacoa is the go-to place for perfectly roasted servings of pork that’s crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside with just the right amount of char at the edge, complements of the woodfire and charcoal grill. The fine selection of wines and cocktails will complement the food as you take your meal in the chic loft-style establishment complete with stunning views of sunset over the paddy fields it faces.

Sarong
Bali’s sole representative in the Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants 2015 list, Sarong boasts an eclectic yet authentic mix of traditional Asian flavours, complete with the richness and intensity you’d expect. Helmed by Scottish-born chef Will Meyrick (who counts working with Gordon Ramsey in his CV), many of the dishes on the menu at the 142-seater restaurant showcase local recipes learnt from street vendors in Asia. Must-try dishes include the grilled beef rib with peanuts and chilli dressing served with beef broth.

Mejekawi
Loosely translated to mean ‘sacred table’, Mejekawi is a tasting kitchen and laboratory concept by the team behind lifestyle entertainment venue Ku De Ta. Occupying the new wing on the second floor of the venue, the restaurant’s claim to fame is its five- and 12-course tasting menus that are focused on showcasing the Bali’s local produce through very soulful expressions. Expectedly, general manager Juri Menicucci has also lent his expertise with wine pairing options to accompany the courses.

Double-Six Rooftop
Perched atop bustling Double Six beach on the new Double-Six Luxury Hotel in Seminyak, the Double-Six Rooftop is fast becoming one of the best spots on the island to catch sunset. And the most relaxing way to do so is with a couple of tiki-inspired cocktails in hand as you lounge in one of the many sea-facing floating pods. A barbeque offering favourites like satay is also available should you be feeling peckish.
