The Shangri-La’s Le Touessrok Resort & Spa

A famed resort reborn into a contemporary retreat

Mauritius’s storied Le Touessrok resort first opened in 1978 on the African island’s pristine Trou d’Eau Douce bay. Last December, the 200-room property emerged from a US$30 million makeover as Shangri-La’s Le Touessrok Resort & Spa, a breezy retreat where a Mauritian rum shack is one of five restaurants and a signature Chi Spa offers therapies in an ayurvedic garden. Guest rooms are bright and modern, with marble floors, geometric and botanical-print textiles, and mango-wood furnishings. Unchanged however are the resort’s four secluded beaches, heaped with powdery white sand and surrounded by the crystal-blue Indian Ocean.

Shangri-La’s makeover of Mauritius’s longstanding luxury leader, Le Touessrok is on 34 acres along the island’s eastern Trou d’Eau Douce bay.
