Let there be light
With the Nightingale lamp for Rosenthal, Christophe de la Fontaine has taken an unusual approach to lighting. Looking somewhat like the Dyson bladeless Air Multiplier fan, the Nightingale turns things on its head, literally. What would be the lampshade is now also the body of the lamp, a circular receptacle housing an LED light that allows direct illumination of a wider surface area. Resembling the lanterns used by ancient mariners, the white porcelain body can be jazzed up with leather bands in three colours – a reddish bordeaux, dark brown and tan – which also serve as a handle for easy transportation. And if you fancy a change, simply flip the nightingale down to create a new lighting perspective. The Nightingale comes in two sizes – 27cm (€619/RM2,840) and 42cm (€829/RM3,804).
