Cognac comfort
A French monarch sets up in the capital of the Middle Kingdom. In a first for the house of Rémy Martin, the world’s only Louis XIII boutique has opened its doors in Beijing. Designed by RDAI, the space in Beijing’s luxury-minded SKP mall is an encyclopaedic dedication to the world’s greatest cognac.
Using earthy tones of copper, oak, gold – all hues found within the elixir of Louis XIII – the boutique offers ‘a wave of sensations, an emotion, an experience’ to welcome wealthy Chinese into the Louis XIII family. Other design elements, including details in limestone, crystal and glass, all reference the differing materials used in the creation of the cognac.
It’s a smart move, opening possibly the world’s first dedicated boutique for a wine and spirit brand, lifting the exclusivity quotient and allowing Louis XIII to engage their clients directly, particularly given China’s historical love for cognac. To that end, it is no surprise that the boutique is designed to be a lounge where connoisseurs can while away the day in each other’s company over a measure of Louis XIII. The clientele will also have access to exclusive tastings, food pairings and Louis XIII products unique to the boutique.
