Bullet time
When it was first introduced in 2014, the daring Swiss watchmaker ArtyA’s Russian Roulette watch turned heads with its design motifs that drew inspiration from the bloody ‘game’ of Russian Roulette. Part of its gun-themed Son of a Gun range, the dial is a representation of a pistol’s spinning six chamber cylinder, with one of them actually filled with the bottom of a real bullet (taken from legendary calibres like the Magnum 44, 357 or P38) and side inserts made from the cartridges of used bullets. It’s a statement piece indeed, but in its original rose-gold-black-strap incarnation, you’d have to pay close attention to see the details.
No such demurity with the Blue Blood edition. Gaining a blue PVD treatment to the case and dial, matched with a blue leather strap, the new Son of a Gun Russian Roulette Blue Blood edition leaps out to the eye off the wrist. It certainly has the gravitas to match that pop of colour; the Blue Blood is sized at 44mm, larger than the current standard 42mm, with a manually wound ARR Skeletonised movement (with 52 hour power reserve) that is visible through the anti-reflective sapphire caseback and front. Striking and certainly the stuff that aristocracy would gravitate to, the timepiece is limited to 99 pieces with a price tag of CHF9,900 (RM43,050).
