This Valentine’s Day, Omega has something special for the horology-inclined couple: a matching set of one of the most enduring timepiece icons, the Speedmaster.
Long considered the quintessential chronograph, the Speedmaster is the choice of the discerning gentleman who desires a tool watch that exudes heritage and class as much as functionality. This Speedmaster Racing (RM33,900) looks very much like a classic example — black-on- steel aesthetic and iconic tachymeter ceramic bezel. It is a sizable piece at just over 44mm in diameter. The ‘Racing’ designation comes from the staggered minute markers, which has been found sporadically on historical Speedmasters.
As for the ladies, well, there might have been a time that tool watches would have been considered inappropriate — but those days are long gone. The 38mm “Capuccino” Speedmaster 38 (RM36,900) is the perfect modern feminine example, and its nickname comes from the contrasting coffee-and-cream colours of the dial. The subdials and date window are oval-shaped, contributing to the softer, ladylike look. Setting it all off are the 18k Sedna gold hands and indexes, and diamonds on the outer bezel.
