Dressed down but dignified sailing style is the pillar of the Main capsule collection, introduced for this spring and summer by Giorgio Armani. Featuring a palette of dark green, touches of red, and, of course, dark blue and white, its single- and double-breasted jackets recall traditional uniform designs but their relaxed fits indicate their leisurely intent—and if there was any doubt, one can opt for the Bermuda shorts over the trousers. Satin-finished gold Armani logo gold buttons and moss-stitched hand-crafted pinstriping are the fine, luxurious touches.
The materials used are eminently lightweight and practical for warm weather: the jackets are in linen and viscose canvas, while t-shirts and polos are in stretch viscose. The Mandarin collared or edged shirts are in ultra-lightweight cotton. A durable technical fabric, used for jackets, shorts and trousers, is available in a green similar to Giorgio Armani’s personal superyacht, Main. The yacht is an expression of the man himself—understated and straightforward in its luxurious elegance, as is typical of Armani design. The distinctive lettering of its name is found as this collection’s logo, most notably found on the back of the casual jacket.
The Main capsule collection is completed by swimwear offerings and an array of seaworthy accessories such as beach towel, hat, trainers in three colours and a waxed canvas duffel bag.
With the onset of global Corvid-19 pandemic however, there may be some delays in the availability of the Main capsule collection as the Armani Group has announced a just few days ago that all of its Italian production plants have now switched to manufacturing single-use medical overalls for frontliners to be used in the fight against the wide-spread disease. The company has also made two sizeable donations of €2 million (over RM9.6 million) to government institutions and hospitals who are combating the coronavirus.
