Mid-Autumn Festival is almost upon us and that means looking forward to savouring the round-shaped pastries we all know and love as mooncakes. Here is 5 of the best and the most exclusive mooncakes you can find in the city and the Klang Valley this year.
Four Seasons Hotel Kuala Lumpur
This year’s mooncake season at the Four Seasons Hotel Kuala Lumpur is joined by legendary Malaysian-born designer Jimmy Choo. The collaboration is reminiscent of the extravagant Crazy Rich Asians look, featuring a custom bright pink totem box decorated with an elegant lavender peacock origami pattern in the centre. Each mooncake is packaged in its own box, stamped with an iconic Jimmy Choo design on the top. Try their luxurious snow skin mooncakes filled with musang king durian, or Valrhona chocolate with Himalayan salt and an auspicious egg yolk. For a more traditional kick, the Pu Er Tea with tangerine peel, and the classic white lotus seed paste baked mooncakes are both must-eats. Bar Trigona has also managed to sneak in a cheeky bit of Rum into the mooncake festivities with the sumptuous Trigona Rum Ki Tiki mooncake, as a way of raising a toast to the festive season.
The limited-edition Jimmy Choo mooncake gift boxes are priced between RM488 to RM588. To order visit their website here.
Mandarin Oriental, Kuala Lumpur
If you’re aiming to impress friends and family this year, Mandarin Oriental’s award-winning Lai Po Heen makes its return with the Golden Moon mooncake. Dusted completely in edible gold, the Golden Moon takes on two crowd-favourite flavours with a boozy twist: lotus and pandan, each with a single egg yolk at the centre for the utmost prosperity. Also making its debut this year is the sweet and savoury salted egg custard snow skin, as well as a pandan Gula Melaka chocolate mooncake for a more Malaysian flavour profile. Mandarin Oriental KL’s understated yet elegant eco-friendly bamboo box is also making a comeback this year. Each Premium Bamboo Box can hold up to six mooncakes, individually packed in red and gold floral motif boxes, and is beautifully wrapped with red silk for that final touch.
