Pizzazz Aplenty At BMCC’s Fifth Edition Of Its Business Excellence Awards

On the occasion of the fifth edition of the British Malaysian Chamber of Commerce’s (BMCC) annual Business Excellence Awards held at Sunway Resort Hotel’s Grand Ballroom, the British High Commissioner to Malaysia Her Excellency Ailsa Terry CMG – who is also the patron of the BMCC congratulated the nominees and winners of this year’s awards, thanking them for their continued contributions to the thriving business relationship between the United Kingdom and Malaysia.

On a night to celebrate excellence in British-Malaysian partnerships and businesses, the stars in British luxury lifestyle also came to the fore. In one corner of the room was the Lotus Eletre hyper-SUV, while Gordon Ramsay Bar & Grill provided canapes and the evening’s dinner course. Winners received trophies sponsored by the world’s foremost name in quality pewter Royal Selangor International. Out at the foyer, Tanqueray – the London-originated gin – provided refreshing glasses of Tanqueray No 10 with tonic or soda. Beyond the awards, guests enjoyed lucky draws, a bagpipe band, ballet performances and a rendition of songs by precocious talents.

A stellar lineup of nominees competed for a slew of awards with the winners announced as follows; Outstanding SME (HL Design Group), Outstanding ESG (Pelabuhan Tanjung Pelepas), Diversity & Inclusion (PricewaterhouseCoopers Malaysia), Technology & Innovation (Dyson Manufacturing), UK-Malaysia Education Institutional Partnership of the Year (Cardiff Metropolitan University with Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) and UK-Malaysia Partnership of the Year (AstraZeneca with Clinical Research Malaysia). The biggest prize of the night, the UK-Malaysia Business of the Year, was won by Smith & Nephew Operations in a near unanimous decision by judges for their admirable work in pioneering digital transformation, committing to investment and giving back to the community with environmental and social programmes.

In his address on the evening’s programme, BMCC Chairman Mak Joon Nien who is also the MD and CEO of Standard Chartered Bank Malaysia, said the evening was a celebration of the outstanding achievements of the UK-Malaysia business and partnerships, and the awards were to acknowledge their efforts in driving innovation and opportunities for shared success and prosperity.

On a related note, the guest-of-honour for the evening Digital Minister Gobind Sigh Deo, shared his enthusiasm for the road ahead. “We are optimistic about the future achievements that our collaboration with the BMCC will bring, emphasising our shared goal of building a resilient, inclusive, and forward-thinking digital ecosystem.”
