An Evening With Space Showcased Designer Furniture With A Side Of Hyper-SUV

On a drizzly Wednesday evening, along the leafy suburb of Bangsar, the Space Furniture showroom dedicated to designer furniture buzzed with the appearance of two Lotus Eletre hyper-SUVs. The evening began with test drives of the Eletre, allowing guests of Robb Report Malaysia to marvel at its active aerodynamics and sportscar character with Jack Zaal, the general manager of Lotus Cars Malaysia, an able and effusive on-site expert.

Soon, as the sun sank into the hills, the talk turned to furniture and design, led by Space Furniture Asia’s general manager Derek Lim, who welcomed guests to the showroom and enlightened them with updates from some of the world’s leading brands, such as B&B Italia, Giorgetti, Maxalto, Arflex, Edra, Kartell, Moooi and SP01.

The evening would also take a gastronomic tangent, with chef Andy Choy of Chateau Dionne bringing his customary panache to the dining table. Canapes of mozzarella choux and gruyere tartlets were paired with delicious, crisp champagne from Pol Roger, followed by a capellini of angel hair pasta, Hokkaido scallops, ikura and ponzu.

Across the evening, Italian wines took centre stage, a reflection of the vast majority of Italian-originated furniture houses that are represented by Space. The Wagyu main was paired with wine from the legendary estate of Antinori Pian delle Vigne Brunello di Montalcino of the 2017 vintage, while the halibut was paired with Antinori Cervaro della Sala Umbria 2019.

The event wound to a close with a refreshing lemon dessert and a 2018 Anselmi I Capitelli Dolce wine, composed of honeyed, floral, peach and apricot aromas from the Gargenega grape. There would be an undeniable consensus at the end of the night as guests resolved to return to the Space showroom on Jalan Maarof soon, with new collections expected from the recent Salone del Mobile Milano giving them a strong impetus to redecorate.
