With more than half a century of global hospitality leadership, Hyatt Hotels Corporation covers a portfolio of more than 1,300 hotels and all-inclusive properties across 77 countries on six continents. Among this considerable collection, Park Hyatt stands as a singular brand that directly reflects founder Jay Pritzker’s personal vision. The brand can be found in many booming destinations worldwide and offers a cultivated setting with residential-style suites, personalised services, and celebrated dining establishments. There are currently 45 Park Hyatt hotels in integral corners around the world.
Bearing this stature, the highly anticipated Park Hyatt Kuala Lumpur will soon take its place amongst Kuala Lumpur’s evolving skyline. This new central landmark will inhabit the top floors of Merdeka 118 (the tallest skyscraper in Southeast Asia), where guests can expect breathtaking views from the city’s highest vantage point. The hotel is strategically located in a high-traffic site and is built with the intention of serving local and international guests. “The Merdeka 118 precinct brings together travellers and residents who appreciate history, art and design,” says the newly appointed general manager of Park Hyatt Kuala Lumpur, Herman Kemp. “The new property will allow guests to experience the rich diversity of the city firsthand.”
Kemp has been in the hospitality industry for more than 20 years and has held key roles in some of Hyatt’s most distinguished properties. “Hospitality is about people,” Kemp opines. “It involves understanding their needs, anticipating their desires, and surpassing their expectations. This philosophy will shape all our efforts here at Park Hyatt Kuala Lumpur.” Kemp’s leadership approach is grounded in core values that he has consistently upheld throughout his career, starting with his formal education at Hotelschool The Hague in the Netherlands. “Key principles have always been at the forefront of everything I do and that includes mutual respect, integrity, humility and creativity,” Kemp adds. “I’m looking forward to leading my team upon our opening in Kuala Lumpur.”
Although the tourism sector has grappled with significant challenges in the wake of the pandemic, it introduced a new wave of luxury travellers. “Although luxury is subjective, today’s travellers are increasingly drawn to purposeful experiences,” Kemp says. “We aim to address these shifting expectations at Park Hyatt Kuala Lumpur by delivering individualised care and experiential provisions.” Beyond accommodation and wellness offerings, the hotel is bringing in a fresh take on gastronomy—spotlighting constructive cooking methods, local gourmet ingredients, and more plant-based options. Sustainability is another key focus, with novel and conscious practices such as using solar panels to power hot water.
“The main goal is to continually enhance our guest experience,” says Kemp on his ambitions for the new property. “I envision establishing Park Hyatt Kuala Lumpur as a model of luxury living and cultural immersion through meaningful partnerships with local communities and talented artists that showcase the city’s vibrant roots.”
