A Weekend Drive Of Ferraris, Hotsprings, And Fine-Dining In A Cave

On a bright Friday morning at Sunway City, a fleet of Ferraris galloped into the driveway of Sunway Resort Hotel. The owners—members of the Ferrari Owners’ Club Malaysia (FOCM)—and their partners, trooped into the marbled-and-gold interiors of the Gordon Ramsay Bar and Grill to tuck into a breakfast of pastries, yoghurt, granola, Eggs Benedict, smoked salmon, scrambled eggs, and fruit—the ideal start to their weekend drive.

Before long, a parade of Ferraris would make a beeline for the NKVE, dashing towards the iconic Menara Condong located in the heart of Teluk Intan town. The sleepy town would then buzz to life with the arrival of these mechanical steeds. As the Ferraris assembled in front of the Menara Condong, some curious FOCM members decided to explore this unique and historical landmark, built in a pagoda style nearly 150 years ago, and inclined due to the soft ground it was built on.

Nearby, the BSH Enak confectionary showcased the town’s longtime favourite peanut biscuits and it provided the perfect pit stop for the drivers. This 50-year-old company continues to produce traditional biscuits and cookies till this day, and its staff warmly welcomed the members for a tour of its facilities and shop. Following lunch, the convoy would then take to the B-roads as they made their way towards the limestone hills of Tambun, and their eventual destination that is The Banjaran Hotsprings Retreat.

Arriving at The Banjaran Hotsprings Retreat & Spa, the FOCM members enjoyed the healing, mineral-rich spring waters in their own private dipping pools, before congregating for pre-dinner aperitifs that included an expression from the Eden Mill St Andrews distillery, Guard Bridge—a non-chill filtered single malt blend adeptly showcasing the Lowland profile of sweet, floral notes with robust, spicy, and fruit Highland whiskies.

Dinner inside Jeff’s Cellar cave restaurant proved to be the perfect wrap to the weekend drive, with the lilting sounds of a Chinese instrumental duo of er-hu and guzheng enhancing an extraordinary ambience of rock pools, stalagmites and stalactites—a natural phenomenon that required 260 million years in the making.
