In a fitting tribute to its centenary year, Leica has unveiled its fastest shooter yet—the SL3-S, a professional-grade camera that pushes the boundaries of both still photography and videography.
Within this technological tour de force lies a newly developed full-frame sensor (which captures images in the same size as traditional 35mm film) that delivers 24-megapixel images, with the ability to create ultra-detailed 96-megapixel photographs using multiple shots combined into one. The camera’s focusing system combines three different technologies to track and capture subjects with perfect clarity, enabling it to shoot an impressive 30 pictures every second—making it the fastest Leica ever created.

Built like a tank for professional use, the SL3-S features a weather-sealed metal body that protects against dust and water splashes. It excels in virtually any lighting condition, from bright sunlight to near darkness, thanks to its remarkable light sensitivity range. For filmmakers, the camera can record incredibly detailed 6K video (offering six times the resolution of standard HD), including vertical formats perfect for social media content.
With the era of widespread AI-generated imagery and digital manipulation, the SL3-S introduces an authentication system through its integration with the Content Authenticity Initiative (CAI). This feature allows the camera to embed tamper-proof metadata—including creator information, capture time and editing history—directly into each photograph.
The SL3-S also offers extensive connectivity options, including the latest high-speed memory card formats and universal connections like USB-C and HDMI. Photographers can quickly transfer their images to smartphones through Leica’s dedicated app, while an upcoming feature will allow direct uploads to cloud storage.
For professional videographers, the camera offers broadcast-quality recording capabilities both internally and to external devices. It can record continuously without time limits, and includes professional features such as precise timing synchronisation for matching audio with video during editing.
Beyond that, the SL3-S features a crystal-clear electronic viewfinder with remarkable detail and smoothness, complemented by a tilting touchscreen that makes shooting from creative angles easier. Meanwhile, the camera’s design and intuitive controls ensure comfortable operation during long shooting sessions.
With a versatile lens mount, the SL3-S works perfectly with Leica’s extensive lens collection and those from partner manufacturers. It excels with Leica’s legendary M-series lenses, enhanced by the camera’s built-in stabilisation system that helps prevent blurry images from camera shake.
The SLS-3 is now available worldwide at Leica Stores and authorised dealers, and is priced at RM26,200.
