Ichi-U Is The One-Stop Shop For Japanese Cuisine

An interesting selection of desserts, including the traditional handmade warabi mochi and the trendy raindrop cake, can also be found here.

Ichi-u, meaning ‘one roof’ in Japanese, offers three dining experiences in a single setting. Guests have the option of enjoying casual bites with its à la carte selections, indulging in curated course menus, or a soon to be introduced intimate omakase experience that will complete the mix.

Sharing a space with the Sheraton Imperial Hotel in Chow Kit, the restaurant is impossible to overlook with its striking red exterior and charming Zen garden. Beyond its offerings, Ichi-u fully embodies the essence of its name in its layout as well, boasting two private rooms, an alfresco area for those who enjoy the sunny weather and fresh air, counter seating for a more interactive experience, and a cool and comfortable main dining area.

Its diverse menu makes this Japanese spot a favourite among many, but what truly makes this place stand out is its unique dishes, like the Foagura Chawanmushi (steamed egg custard with foie gras), and the Uni Platter, which features decadent sea urchin served with Hokkaido milk toast, seaweed, and sushi rice. With fresh seafood air-flown from Japan every Tuesdays and Fridays, guests can also expect premium sashimi, from snow crab to exquisite bluefin tuna, served in thick and satisfying cuts.

When browsing through its menu, you’d be surprised to find a rare gem—kinki (rockfish). Sourced only in deep waters—the reason for its rich and fatty texture—this fish is hard to come by. At Ichi-u, it is grilled and served whole, locking the moisture into its tender flesh. Savour it with a bowl of rice or as it is served, with a lemon wedge and grated daikon radish to enhance its flavour and cut through its richness.

Apart from its remarkable flavours, this restaurant knows how to serve up a performance as well. For those who enjoy theatrical flair, go for the Phoenix, a flaming salmon and tempura prawn roll. It’s a photo-worthy shot for the lenses. There’s certainly no denying that Ichi-u truly has it all under one roof.
