Sanlorenzo’s Triumphant Debut In Cannes Redefines The Future Of Yachting

The Italian shipmaker revealed three yachts at the Cannes Yachting Festival, setting a new precedent for luxury yachts with the SX120, SD132, and SL110A.

When the curtains rose on the Cannes Yachting Festival this September, Sanlorenzo commanded the spotlight with the unveiling of three remarkable new models: the SX120, SD132, and SL110A. More than simple premieres, these launches marked a bold new chapter in the Italian house’s relentless pursuit of design innovation, sustainability, and technological mastery, cementing its place as one of the world’s foremost creators of luxury yachts.

SX120

At the heart of the excitement were its two new flagships. Measuring nearly 37m in length, the SX120 became the largest-ever yacht in Sanlorenzo’s crossover range, a collection that has consistently redefined life at sea by merging the adventurous spirit of explorer yachts with the effortless ease of flybridge living. This latest model showcases the full evolution of the SX design philosophy, a concept that champions open spaces, fluid indoor-outdoor transitions, and strikingly contemporary lines.

The SX120 is also a technological statement, becoming the first yacht worldwide to integrate Volvo Penta’s IPS Professional Platform, a pioneering propulsion system powered by four compact 1,000hp engines. This breakthrough dramatically reduces fuel consumption and emissions while freeing up valuable space on board, giving way to a spectacular 70 sq m beach area. It is further expandable via fold-down terraces, which also feature a retractable pool—an innovation that turns the stern into a floating resort perfect for even the most ambitious parties. In addition, owners of the superyacht stand to enjoy 360° panoramic views from the upper deck, while the flybridge introduces the ‘Smart Island’, a modular seating concept that transforms from a sunbathing area to an elegant dining lounge under the stars. “The SX120 represents the natural evolution of a range that has changed the way yachting is conceived,” said Tommaso Vincenzi, CEO of Sanlorenzo, in a statement. “It combines functionality, aesthetics, and sustainability into a single product.”

SD132

Sharing centre stage was the SD132, the largest composite yacht ever built by Sanlorenzo and the new flagship of its semi-displacement collection. At 40.7m and 420 gross tonnes, the SD132 sets a new benchmark for space and volume in its class. One of its most impressive features is its expansive beach area, where fold-down terraces create a 70 sq m platform at the water’s edge, turning the cockpit into a sweeping, unobstructed terrace for true immersion with the nautical environment.

Looking inside, the SD132 demonstrates Sanlorenzo’s pioneering work in asymmetrical design, with offset walkways to maximise interior volumes and create a seamless flow through the yacht. Indeed, with a 55 sq m owner’s suite on the main deck, four guest cabins below, and vast-windowed salons to traverse through, accessibility and convenience are considered via meticulous design. The design incorporates a palette of natural woods and stone-like finishes, created in collaboration with Zuccon International Project, giving the yacht an atmosphere that is both architecturally sophisticated and warmly inviting.

SL110A

The third model presented at Cannes, the SL110A, continues the evolution of Sanlorenzo’s acclaimed asymmetrical series. Its sculpted exterior, reimagined bow terrace, and full-beam owner’s suite with direct access to a private foredeck pool impressed with its masterful combination of elegance and performance. The SL110A’s interior is conceived as a continuation of the exterior experience. Large windows, retractable bulwarks, and sliding gunwales allow light and air to pour in, dissolving boundaries and enhancing the sensation of space. Guests can enjoy a lounge that opens onto the sea via a drop-down terrace, creating an expansive, immersive environment.

“Given her new proportions, dimensions, and clean lines, I believe the SL110A is one of the most elegant yachts Sanlorenzo’s ever produced—perhaps one of the most elegant yachts currently in production,” said Piero Lissoni of Lissoni & Partners in a statement. “She has a design language that is increasingly architectural and distinctly less naval.” And with speeds of up to 27 knots, it delivers both excitement and refinement in equal measure.

Together, these three yachts form a striking triumvirate of innovation, underscoring Sanlorenzo’s position as a leader in the global luxury yacht market. The launches also reflected the brand’s broader vision, which continues to be guided by its ‘Road to 2030’ commitment to sustainability, with significant investments in green methanol propulsion, hydrogen fuel cells, and other next-generation technologies.

For more than six decades, Sanlorenzo has maintained its singular mission: to create yachts that are not only beautiful but also deeply attuned to the lifestyles of their owners and the demands of a changing world. The SX120 and SD132, in particular, stand as floating works of architecture, designed to connect life onboard with the sea in the most seamless, inspiring way possible.

This year in Cannes, Sanlorenzo did more than launch three new yachts, it charted the course for the future of yachting. And for those fortunate enough to step aboard, that future felt more spacious, more sustainable, and more sublime than ever.
