Solarin – Military-Grade Security In A Smartphone

Clandestine communications

If the highest form of smartphone luxury is in the assurance of privacy, then Swiss-based Sirin Labs Solarin is the new apex predator.

The claim is a bold one, that the Solarin ‘incorporates the most advanced privacy technology, currently available outside the agency world.’ As such it isn’t exactly affordable, starting at £9,500 (RM57,000).

A result of two years R&D at facilities located in Sweden and Tel Aviv, the internal of the Solarin are wrapped in the handiwork of industrial designer Karim Rashid using a combination of titanium and leather held together by an aerospace industry-inspired metal matrix composite chassis.

The Android 5.1-based Solarin one-ups the competition with a physical Security Switch on the back panel that encrypts messages received and delivered while limiting call usage to outgoing voice calls only. Operating system security patches are up-to-date as of launch, and Sirin Labs’ tech partners assure the broadest array of protection against mobile cyberattacks.

Elsewhere, the spec sheet reads impressively enough with a laser-assisted autofocus 23.8-megapixel rear camera, 8-megapixel front-facing camera with flash, 5.5-inch LCD display, three speakers, 4GB of RAM, 128GB of internal storage and a fingerprint scanner.
