Italy’s Asnaghi Interiors continues the fine tradition of marquetry

Marquetry forces

An elaborate form of the craft, creating delicate inlays in wood, and known in Italy as intarsia, marquetry was practised in the Renaissance in the 15th century. Over time, this ancient know-how has been improved by artisans and continues to be practised in the 21st century by luxury Italian company Asnaghi Interiors.

In the brand’s new Blush collection, its craftsmen have taken walnut burl and wood, natural spruce and dyed items in blue and shades of pink to fuse into intricate patterns that demonstrate superb contemporary skills that pay tribute to the technique’s illustrious history.

In this collection, the company has turned eastwards for its inspiration to produce a three-piece, Oriental-style set of furniture. A coffee table adorned with elaborate, hand-carved legs and gold-leaf finish is complemented by a similarly colourful chest of drawers and a circular side table with a rotary top, which opens to reveal a set of drawers.

Asnaghi Interiors was founded by Giuseppe Asnaghi in 1916. Now in the third generation of the family, its Italian-made classical furniture has found fame in the Arabic world and Russia (including the Kremlin) and has showrooms in major world cities.
