The New All-Electric Mini Paul Smith Edition Arrives With Style In Malaysia
The ongoing collaboration between the classic motoring marque and the iconic fashion designer is expressed through the newest versions of the Mini Paul Smith Edition.
The latest in the ongoing collaborations between two British icons of style, Paul Smith and Mini, has arrived on Malaysian roads. Sir Paul Smith, who created his eponymous brand in 1970, is well-known for his ‘classic with a twist’ philosophy and usage of coloured stripes as a motif, and has been working with Mini since the late 1990s.
Their latest outing takes the form of the all-electric Mini Cooper SE, a classic three-door format that combines the heritage charm that the brand is renowned for with the latest in modern-day propulsion. Its electric motor makes up to 215bhp and 330Nm of torque, which results in a 0-100km/h time of 6.7 seconds. Being a Mini, it promises a playful but precise driving experience, whilst the 54.2kWh battery has a maximum rated range of up to 402km. At the maximum DC charging power of 95kW, it charges from 10 to 80 per cent in less than 30 minutes.
The new limited edition is available in two colours: Inspired White and Statement Grey, developed exclusively for this launch. These are contemporary riffs on two classic Mini colours, which are, respectively, Classic Pepper White, a mainstay from the brand’s early history, and a blue-tinged grey that dates back to the Mini Austin Seven of 1959. A counterpoint of Nottingham Green is found on key exterior accents, including the roof and side mirrors, while Smith’s colourful Signature Stripe motif graces one roof edge.
Of course, it would not be a Paul Smith edition without more stripes. And, indeed, the Nightshade Blue JCW Sports seats feature a Shadow Stripe knit section on the shoulder and around the headrests, as does the full width of the instrument panel. The mirror projection says ‘hello’ in Smith’s own handwriting, while the door sill likewise remarks ‘Every day is a new beginning!’, making each ingress a bit of an occasion. Mini’s unique round central display features three exclusive backgrounds designed by Smith himself.
The new all-electric Mini Paul Smith Edition is priced at RM222,222.
