With this year’s Chinese Lunar New Year heralding the zodiac horse, it was only fitting that the Ferrari Owners’ Club Malaysia (FOCM) went all out with its annual dinner celebration. A gathering of over 270 members, and their partners, made for the largest Chinese New Year dinner in the club’s 13-year history. The venue for this night: the Regency Ballroom of the new Hyatt Regency Kuala Lumpur in KL Midtown, awash with brilliant reds.

Outside of the ballroom and just at the hotel’s entrance, a fleet of Prancing Horses turned up with a bevy of recent entrants to the Maranello stable, including the 296 GTB, SF90 and 12Cilindri catching the eye.

Up at the ballroom foyer, festively clad guests were welcomed by aperitifs and cocktails made with GH Mumm champagne and Chivas Regal Scotch, both official team partners to the Scuderia Ferrari HP Formula 1 racing team. Guests partook in the evening’s special cocktail—the Leclerc Spritz, a twist of citrus lime, elderflower and mint, with champagne and Chivas Regal Scotch, offering a taste of Ferrari’s Formula 1 driver’s own concoction.

As the banquet hall filled with guests in full anticipation, the customary lion dance showcased acrobatic skills as a duo of dextrous lions leapt on stilts, before leading the entire FOCM Board of Directors and the Italian Ambassador to Malaysia, Raffaele Langella, up the stage for the customary yee sang toss.

A slew of on-stage activities then ensued, with the celebratory tempo carried by the live band, led by percussionist Rachel Wan Ciu Ciu. This event, which also received co-marketing partnership from property developer Binastra Cochrane, Ital Auto Malaysia, the official importer and sole dealer for Ferrari in Malaysia, and consumer electronics giant OPPO, also saw the appearance of Italian luxury leather specialists Poltrona Frau. The brand, famed for upholstering the interiors of Ferrari’s automobiles, also showcased a unique mahjong set made with walnut wood, encased in a wooden box covered with its famed Pelle Frau leather. This and other unique items made for an engaging auction sequence, which included an ultra-premium L’Or de Jean Martell Zodiac Edition | Assemblage du Cheval, a six-bottle 1982 vintage Petrus set and a super-rare assortment case of 1994 Domaine de la Romanée-Conti.

The night ended on a high with a raucous lucky draw session in which lucky winners emerged with valuable gifts from OPPO, electronics superstore HoeHuat and a bottle of 2018 Chateau Lafite-Rothschild from wine specialists 1855 Merchants.
