Inside A McLaren Owners’ Community Malaysia Drive To The Historical City of Melaka
A recent Melaka drive by the McLaren Owners’ Community Malaysia took members through a delicious culinary circuit and to the top of the historical city.
Watch the highlights below
On an early Tuesday morning, the hum of McLaren V8 engines filled the environs of the Palm Garden Golf Club at IOI Resort City. A total of 20 McLarens from the McLaren Owner’s Community Malaysia (MOCM) gathered for a long-anticipated drive to Melaka. Before that, the altruism of the MOCM members came to the fore, with a contribution of RM10,000 to Pondok AlFalah, a charitable institution.

Arriving at the scene was Malaysian Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zaid Hamidi, who graciously flagged off the convoy as part of a promotional effort for the Visit Malaysia 2026 campaign. Thereafter, to great aplomb, the fleet of McLaren automobiles zoomed down the highway towards Melaka.
Upon reaching the city, the first stop on an itinerary designed in concert with Tourism Melaka brought the aroma of freshly roasted and ground coffee at the Aik Cheong factory. Today, this well-known coffee roaster—which began as a small wooden shop in 1955 on the present-day Jonker Street—produces over 800,000 sachets of coffee and roasts about three tonnes of coffee beans daily, across an eight-acre automated production facility.
Lunch beckoned at Nanyang Chicken Rice Ball with delicious servings of its signature chicken paired with the city’s unmissable steamed chicken rice balls. The inevitable siesta would then occur, as the MOCM members checked into The Majestic Malacca—a luxury five-star heritage boutique hotel restored from a 1920s Straits Settlement mansion.
The next stop brought the MOCM participants to the immersive and state-of-the-art performance hall of Encore Melaka with its 360-degree rotating platform and remarkable stage effects, including rainfall and constantly evolving sets. Dinner at the Peranakan Mansion would end the day on a high note, with a delicious parade of signatures from pie tee and assam prawns and the unmissable Ayam Pong Teh by Chef Keong.
Day Two began bright and early as the convoy arrived at Menara Taming Sari, and was greeted by its CEO, Nur Azan Hassan. At 80 metres up, the rotating Taming Sari gyro tower offers a bird’s-eye view of the historical heart of the oldest quarter of Melaka, its landmarks a testament to five colourful centuries which led to its 2008 inscription as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The leisurely drive around the city continued at the Porta de Santiago square, and a cute trishaw ride to San Shu Gong where all manner of local treats awaited—from dodol gula melaka to durian cendol. Lunch convened at the Pei Zing restaurant, followed by a tour of the Submarine Museum and a refreshing coconut shake at Klebang, before heading back for a refreshing siesta at The Majestic Malacca.
As the sun began to sink into the famed Straits of Malacca, the MOCM members found themselves at 1-Altitude, towering 195 metres above sea level and the highest point in the entire state. Here in this modish rooftop bar space, the MOCM members and their partners enjoyed a merry dinner and alfresco drinks, paired with live music and a DJ spinning awesome retro tracks. Up above the fray, the members enjoyed the delicious cool evening air, freshened by an earlier shower, and the twinkling lights of the city below, with memories of yet another great drive and the promise of more to come.
