Only 10 Bottles Of This Mortlach 30 Year Old Are Available In Malaysia
Nicknamed ‘Midnight Malt’ as a tribute to complex, luxurious whiskies savoured throughout the night, this Mortlach 30 Year Old expression is highly priced and highly limited.
Extending far beyond the core range of the Mortlach distillery is this exceptionally aged and rare release: a 30-year-old reference nicknamed ‘Midnight Malt.’ Priced at RM30,600, only 10 bottles are for sale in Malaysia.
Matured in a combination of American and European oak, the result is touted as one of the Speyside distillery’s boldest, richest, and darkest. Its deep amber liquid is meant to be savoured slowly, ideally throughout the evening and watching the sun disappear—hence the nickname. Tasting notes suggest layers of spice and sweetness, in the vein of orchard fruits and dark chocolate, as well as a herbal note. It will doubtless have the full body and deep, savoury meatiness that Mortlach is renowned for. The 49.1 per cent ABV is still fairly substantial for such an old whisky and, presumably, makes it a cask-strength spirit.

“There is both art and science in whisky-making. Mortlach 30 Year Old reflects that balance—a complex journey of flavour that evolves over time, revealing the depth of craftsmanship behind every drop,” said Dr Craig Wilson, Master Blender of Malts at Diageo, in a statement.
The 30 Year Old Midnight Malt is another milestone for Mortlach, as it continues to establish itself amongst whisky connoisseurs, thanks to the distinctive flavour profile of its unique 2.81 distillation process. It was founded all the way back in 1823 as the first licensed distillery of Dufftown, one of Scotland’s most prominent whisky-making towns. Despite this rich history, it was only over the last 10 years or so that its single malts became more widely recognised, thanks to an invigorated core range. Today, it is one of the whisky standouts of drinks giant Diageo, and this ambitious, aged release is an indication of the distillery’s continuing potential in the ultra-luxury segment.
