Missoni Unveils Its First Branded Residences in Portugal on Lisbon’s Southern Coast

Missoni is expanding its design footprint into Portugal with a new branded residential development on Lisbon’s south coast. Set within the 864-acre Herdade da Aroeira estate, about a half-hour from the city centre, Aroeira Collections by Missoni marks the Italian fashion house’s first hospitality-focused real estate venture in the country. Construction began in early September, and interest has been strong—around 30 per cent of the units are already reserved.

The development includes houses, villas, and apartments arranged across a landscape of pine forest and sand dunes near the Atlantic. The master plan emphasises low-impact architecture and straightforward integration with the surroundings. Chief architect Ana Costa—working with Pedro Domingos and João Favila Meneses—designed the buildings with natural materials like wood and stone and kept the massing low to follow the site’s topography. Costa and Favila Meneses, recent recipients of the Valmor Award, focused on minimising visual impact while maximising light, ventilation, and outdoor access.

The offering includes two-, three-, and four-bedroom houses set among the pines, each with split-level layouts and outdoor areas. The 28 villas occupy a quieter section of the estate, bordered on three sides by golf greens. Eight premium villas overlook the course directly, while 20 additional homes are integrated into the hospitality portion of the project and feature Missoni-designed interiors along with furniture from Atelier Daciano da Costa. These villas include private patios and dipping pools, with upper living areas positioned for sunlight and views.

Forty-two- and three-bedroom apartments complete the residential mix and are intended for both permanent living and investment use. Throughout the property, the grounds are pedestrian-friendly. Think paths and gardens that connect residents to a restaurant, greengrocer, pools, a wellness centre, and sports facilities, including tennis, padel courts, and two PGA-branded golf courses. Landscaping uses native plants such as aroeira, lavender, and rosemary to maintain ecological continuity and reduce water needs.

Missoni handles the interior design for the hospitality spaces and serviced villas, incorporating the brand’s signature patterns and colour palette. The Italian fashion house is even bringing reissues of classic Portuguese pieces into the project, including the Poltrona Daciano da Costa armchair, newly upholstered in Missoni fabrics.

The first phase of Aroeira Collections is expected to be completed by late 2028. Developers anticipate the project will support both local tourism and year-round residential demand along Lisbon’s southern coast.
