In our weekly TWIL series, we bring you the latest in luxury news from around the world. Jaquet Droz And A Collector Joined Forces For This Tribute To Japanese Culture

The Jaquet Droz Petite Heure Minute Red Gold – Japanese Garden is a unique watch, an objet d’art, and a superlative showcase of artistic craftsmanship. Many of its 25 appliques are made from mother-of-pearl; the dial is also entirely mother-of-pearl, and many of the exquisite details that come together to create the Japanese scene are less than a millimetre thick. A temple at the top, the koi fish in the centre, reeds and water lilies on the left, and a cherry tree and a lantern on the right—these are all precisely positioned, many of which are within a tenth of a millimetre. For even more brilliance, yellow gold is used for the cherry tree branches and the lantern’s frame; 0.5mm diamonds are used for the fish’s eyes; the floating leaves are applied with gold paillons; and a mother-of-pearl cabochon in the centre reflects the fish and the river they swim in. The 41mm watch has an 18-carat red gold case, and is powered by a self-winding mechanical movement with 68 hours of power reserve.
