Academy Award Winners Baz Luhrmann And Catherine Martin Designed A Private Carriage For The British Pullman, A Belmond Train
The new private dining and events carriage is set within an opulent world of a make-believe West End leading lady, Celia.
The riot of colour of Belle Époque Paris, the gold-inflected Art Deco grandeur of Jazz Age America, and the neon-lit glamour of Las Vegas: each is a lavish universe that has been rendered in unapologetically extravagant style in films such as Moulin Rouge! (2001), The Great Gatsby (2013), and Elvis (2022). For three decades, husband-and-wife duo Baz Luhrmann—one of the most exciting filmmakers of our era—and costume and production designer Catherine Martin have collaborated to create a body of work that includes numerous Academy Award–winning films.

Come early summer 2026, wayfarers will be able to step into a world created by the dynamic duo, literally, via a private dining and events carriage within The British Pullman, A Belmond Train. The two have joined their visionary and creative minds to conceive Celia as the most intimate and cinematic way to experience Britain’s most storied train, which has fittingly welcomed acclaimed guests from British royals to stars of the silver screen.

Celia will be set within a restored 1932 Pullman carriage and features its own cocktail bar, lounge, pantry, kitchen, and dining and entertainment area for up to 12 guests. Upon request, a private chef will create tailored menus using premium British seasonal produce for grand banquets and intimate celebrations. Celia will operate an entirely self-contained private carriage within the train, complete with its own dedicated stewards to be at your beck and call. The carriage will depart from London’s Victoria Station across all British Pullman journeys, with the opportunity for guests to personalise both their onboard and offboard experiences.
London’s 1930s West End theatre scene, Shakespeare, and the British countryside served as the fount of inspiration for Luhrmann and Martin. The director conjured up a fictional muse, Celia, who was gifted her own Pullman car in honour of her era-defining performance as Titania, Queen of the Fairies, in A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Every detail of the carriage revolves around enchanting themes and Celia’s life story to create a dreamlike cinematic atmosphere, where moments unfold like movie scenes. Luhrmann and Martin also handpicked the very best British artisans and designers to bring the carriage to life, including long-term Belmond collaborators such as marquetry artisans Dunn & Son and bespoke furniture designer Bill Cleyndert.

“For Catherine and I, creating Celia was a once-in-a-lifetime experience, allowing us to push the boundaries of creativity, luxury, and uniqueness,” Baz Luhrmann said in a statement. “Stepping inside the carriage is like being transported into another world, one in which guests are invited to become part of the story.
“Celia, at its heart, is a magical mystery tour—a travelling dining experience for friends or an intimate celebration, filled with food, music, wine, laughter, and performance,” he continues. “All of this unfolds as you drift through the countryside, feeling as though you’ve stepped inside A Midsummer Night’s Dream. It’s a playful and exceptionally unique way to explore the UK, at your own pace and according to your own rhythm and story.”
Prices for the exclusive use of Celia start from £15,000 and include transfers within Greater London.
