The Morgan EV3, an electrifying three-wheeler

A return to Tri-umph

With the Morgan EV3, the 107-year-old British marque is giving its three-wheel roots a contemporary twist. Debuted at the Geneva International Motor Show in March, the posh prototype is an all-electric homage to founder Henry Morgan’s original circa-1909 cyclecars and a follow up to its contemporary gas-fueled counterpart first delivered in 2012.

Developed in partnership with Potenza Ltd. (responsible for the zero-emissions engineering), the vehicle weighs in at less than 500kg and features a tubular space frame chassis. Housed within is a liquid-cooled, 61 hp electric motor powered by a 120-volt lithium battery. A polished steampunk presentation complements its performance, including the ability to accelerate from zero to 100 kph in under 9 seconds, reach a top speed of 145 kph, and have an operating range of 241 kms per charge.

The first two pre-production examples are currently being constructed and will undergo comprehensive testing to ensure Morgan’s stringent quality and safety standards are satisfied before the EV3 rolls to market.
