Diving into the Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean ‘Deep Black’

Into the deep

A natural progression due to the inextricable link between the Moon and the Earth’s oceans, the Seamaster Planet Ocean “Deep Black” by Omega follows on from its Dark Side of the Moon collection released in 2013. Black, as the name suggests, is the overlying theme, with red-, blue- and 18K Sedna gold-detailed pieces completing the quartet with a plain black offering.

A true diving watch, able to withstand pressures up to a depth of 600m, the 45.5mm pieces are each crafted from a single block of ceramic; the material is also found on the bezel, dial and deployant clasp cover.

The rotating bezel bestows upon the collection a GMT function without cluttering the face; divers will appreciate, on the blue and red models, a matching rubber strip covering the first 15 minutes. This does not appear on the gold piece, touted as a lifestyle piece for those who prefer the deck of a vessel to the abyss beneath.

Of some aesthetic note is the attention to detail on the caseback, oriented such that the engraved wording is perfectly positioned with an alveol design on the rim recalling the pattern of waves.

On precision and performance, Omega’s Master Chronometre calibre 8906 was the driving force of choice. As such, the Deep Black collection is resistant to magnetic fields of 15,000 gauss and METAS certified in addition to traditional COSC certification.
