Seasonings of love
The Greyhound is a breed of dog know for its sleek, stylish build and aristocratic countenance. These are qualities embraced by Greyhound Café from its namesake, with the Bangkok-born restaurant replicating that atmosphere across its outlets in Thailand, China, Singapore, Hong Kong and, of course, Malaysia. The Kuala Lumpur branch of Greyhound (its first site outside of Thailand in Southeast Asia) radiates an airy sophistication in a monochromatic palette, while the kitchen serves up a comprehensive menu livened up with Thai touches. For the festive season, Greyhound Café Kuala Lumpur is adding a dash of red and gold, with the introduction of its Festive Lover menu.
The Festive Lover menu at Greyhound Café offers a little something for everyone, spanning the globe in its inspiration with an anchor in Thailand. The Turkey pita pizza (RM30) uses the Middle Eastern bread to sandwich a filling of roasted turkey, mushrooms, mozzarella and chillies, with raspberry sauce serving as a deliciously sweet and tartish complement. A turkey drumstick is braised then crisped in the Crispy Braised Dark Meat Turkey (RM58), accompanied by traditional European accompaniments – sauerkraut, mustard, French fries and, for that Thai twist, Jaew chilli sauce. Pasta gets a representation with satisfying Spaghetti with Turkey Meatballs (RM32), while East collides with West in a Lamb Shank in Massaman curry on a bed of mash potatoes and cucumber salad sticks (RM55). And for the purists, Traditional Turkey Greyhound Style (RM48) – a plate piled with roast turkey, stuffing, mash potatoes, buttered peas, homemade gravy and cranberry sauce.
Leave for space for the dessert special. The Christmas Tree Delight (RM22) is a decadent tower of puff pastries alternated with light cream and fresh strawberries shaped into a fir tree, while the other option is something a bit more hybrid: Lod Chong Panna Cotta (RM15), Thai cendol meets Italian pudding. There are also two drinks to accompany the festive dishes. Jingle Jelly (RM12) is infused with the essence of pandan and chewy blue butterfly pea flower jelly, while Merry Mellow (RM16) is a deliciously fresh smoothie of blueberry, lychee and lime. Both have a freshness that cuts through the heavier mains well. And, of course, perennial Greyhound Café favourites like the Greyhound Famous Fried Chicken Wings, Complicated Noodles and Salmon Sashimi in Spicy Hot Sauces are still available.
The Festive Lover Menu at Greyhound Café runs until 31 January 2017.
