Grape expectations
Champagne house Perrier-Jouët’s partnership with artistic forum DesignMiami over the last five years has yielded many interesting and beautiful objects and installations. Though none quite as on-the-nose as this year’s. San Francisco-based architect Andrew Kudless crafted a strand garden made from oak veneer screens, softly shimmering with light, as a copse in the middle of which lies a 3D-printed plastic table and bench upon which sits the Perrier-Jouët Marc Metamorphosis.
The installation is inspired by the wood and chalk found in the cellars of Perrier-Jouët’s wine cellers, while the Perrier-Jouët Marc Metamorphosis ice bucket is literally made of wine. Or, at least, the grapes that would eventually become wine. Chardonnay grape skins were pulverised and dehydrated into powder form, then used to 3-D print the wine container. From afar, it looks like a weathered wicker basket; up close, its pinecone hue and wrinkled prune-like petals is intriguing, looking almost like leather made of a giant raisin. It’s certainly unique. And pricey. The Perrier-Jouët Marc Metamorphosis retails for US$5,000 (RM22,370).
