Bavarian boost
Replacing the 730Li and 740Li is the all-new plug-in hybrid BMW 740Le xDrive, now the third locally sold BMW to feature eDrive after the 3 Series and X5 SUV.
Under the hood is a marriage of BMW TwinPower Turbo tech with the electric drive system, resulting in a combined output of 326hp and combine speak torque of 500Nm for a 0-100km/h time of 5.3 seconds on to a top speed of 250km/h. Power is transferred variably to all four wheels — as this is an xDrive designated model — via an eight-speed Steptronic transmission.
An eDrive button on the centre console allows for the selection of various modes: AUTO for intelligent synchronicity between the motor and engine where combustion only takes place when required, MAX for exclusive electric motor propulsion and Battery Control to prepare a aparticular charge level on the battery to be available for later use.
On driving modes via the Driving Experience Control, ECO PRO, COMFORT and SPORT — prioritising efficiency, comfort and performance-oriented driving respectively — are joined by ADAPTIVE mode which adapts to individual driving styles.
Within the cabin, the infotainment system is augmented with BMW Gesture Control while BMW Touch Display is included for the on-board monitors. Audio is piped through the 16-speaker 600W Harman Kardon surround sound system, while rear passengers can access comfort and entertainment functions through the 7-inch removable tablet within the rear centre console — a segment first. The rear seats are also equipped with a massage function. Above, the panoramic Sky Lounge glass roof features over 15,000 lighting elements.
BMW’s Display Key car key is able to display various status data including fuel tank level, current vehicle range, electric charge status, locking and closure of doors, windows and roof, service prompts. Through the key, drivers are also able to activate the air-conditioning and ventilation systems.
Charging the on-board battery is completed in under five hours from a BMW iWallbox Connect with the charging process managed through the BMW Remote smartphone app, while owners will join other hybrid and pure-electric BMW owners in the privilege of accessing GreenTech Malaysia’s network of over 180 ChargEV stations nationwide.
The all-new BMW 740Le xDrive retails for RM598,999 on-the-road without insurance and comes with five-year unlimited mileage warranty, free scheduled servicing over the same period and BMW Tyre Warranty program.
