Keeping Afloat
Mere mortals can now walk on water and it doesn’t take true enlightenment, becoming God, or formal training as a magician. Just pay a visit to Ritz-Carlton, Millenia Singapore. The luxury hotel has unveiled a new outdoor swimming pool complete with a plexiglass cover that can be extended fully or partially over the pool.
Each plexiglass cube is capable of supporting weights up to 800 kilograms, and can be arranged in various formations, from a T shape, to a rectangle or square. This strength and flexibility opens up countless possibilities for events: imagine a showcase for supercars with the vehicles parked over the pool, a lit runway that stretches across the length of the water or a dance party with a spectacular over-water dance floor that fits 200. A newly constructed entrance opens out onto Raffles Avenue, so that guests – and supercars – can make a grand entrance right onto the pool without going through the hotel.
When the curtain falls on the most glamorous events in town and when the lights, plexiglass and DJ console are removed, the pool reveals itself to be an idyllic urban escape. Sip a cold drink from the pool bar while relaxing on one of the sun loungers that dot the three-tier pool deck, or stake claim on a private cabana and enjoy a leisurely meal cooked on the outdoor grill. If more alcohol and grilled meats aren’t appealing with a post-pool party hangover, well, the new Ritz-Carlton Spa and Gym right next door should do wonders.
