In the Black Carpet collection, a debut capsule collection of formal ready-to-wear designs, Van Assche envisions a complete wardrobe dedicated to evening outfits, from t-shirts to tails. Unified by singular usage of black, this is not just a series of exceptional pieces, but an ensemble with unlimited possibilities.
Sophisticated, yet retaining a slight street edge, the Black Carpet collection is defined by meticulous craftsmanship and attention-to-detail. Each piece is no mere plain fabric, but livened up with subtle details that intrigue the eye. Rose embroidery done tone-on-tone is so slight as to be almost invisible at first, revealing its intricacy only up close. Monsieur Dior’s good luck flower, the lily-of-the-valley, is recreated by Van Assche in black leather with small open beadwork done in India – carefully placed on formal jackets to elicit maximum impact.
Elsewhere, hand-embroidered jewelled bees (developed for the Fall/Winter 2017 collection) grace lapels of jackets and dance around leather shoes. Like the jewelled tubes – a cascading tumble of thin tubes present on collars and waistlines – or a fabric treatment where tiny pieces of leather are hand-sewn into clusters to mimic ceremonial shirt fronts or embellished jacket lapels.
