aviator’s hangout
What is the appeal of a classic pilot’s watch? The legibility and functional simplicity, sure, but one cannot deny the romantic associations of such a timepiece — of intrepid spirit, daring individuals and early 20th-century high-altitude adventures.
Now one’s imagination can take on a little extra life at IWC Schaffhausen’s aviator-themed bar, Les Aviateurs. Located in Geneva, the establishment is styled after gentleman’s clubs from the 1920s and 1930s, meaning dark woods, rounded countertops and art deco accents. One might wish to wear a bomber jacket, though a pair of goggles might be overdoing it.
Should you wish to take home a bit of the fantasy, the IWC boutique is just next door. The brand is known for its signature pilot’s watches, of course, such as the Pilot’s Watch Mark XVIII, the Big Pilot’s Watch, and the Le Petit Prince collection.
