As You Like It
Decorus Furniture is no stranger to bespoke commissions: its workshop in Hertfordshire has designed and produced fine, handcrafted furniture, lighting and decorative accessories, often in collaboration with interior designers and architects. Since it was established in 2008 by directors Stuart Sharpless and Richard Hart, Decorus’s creations have frequently popped up in glamorous locations such as The Langham Hotel and Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park’s Rosebery Lounge in London.
Its recent autumn/winter collection sees the release of five new statement pieces, with a focus on finishes that have been carefully paired to either complement or contrast. Brass, nickel, and polished stone, for instance, are expertly set against decorative glass, cast liquid metals or a host of exotic veneers, demonstrating Decorus’s eye for the unusual and extraordinary. Each piece is entirely customisable, such as the Kensington Bar Cabinet (from £21,360, RM118,960), which can be crafted in grey figured eucalyptus with brushed antique brass hardware and accented with bronze eglomise decorative glass doors.
Equally tempting are the Arcadia and Lazzaro freestanding console tables, which showcase the unparalleled skills of Decorus’s craftsmen in hand-forged metalworking. The elaborate Lazzaro (from £10,200) is available in hand-forged, textured steel, and can be finished in medium platinum silver with a polished Nero Marquina marble top and plinth. The graceful curves of the Arcadia (from £6,566/RM26,568) explore the almost endless possibilities of working with Decorus’s liquid metal finishes, such as casting the top and lower shelf panels in brass liquid metal.
