Watch Art
From September 28 to October 13 this year, Patek Philippe will bring its Watch Art Grand Exhibition to Singapore. This extravagant horological affair follows editions in Dubai, Munich, London and New York, bringing this intimate and extensive look at the brand to South East Asia for the first time. This choice of location reaffirms the region’s importance to Patek Philippe, and acknowledges the enthusiasm and sophistication of local collectors and enthusiasts.
The 1,800sqm space of the Sands Theatre at Marina Bay Sands will house 10 themed rooms, each expressing a different perspective on the maison’s past and present makeup. There will be one dedicated to the current collection, for instance, while others are devoted to movements, Rare Handcrafts, and Grand Complications. The Museum Room will host pieces brought from the Patek Philippe Museum in Geneva, and will not only include significant historical Patek Philippe watches, but also those from across the history of European watchmakers. A special Singapore 200th Anniversary room will be a nod to the state’s bicentennial anniversary of its founding, which also takes place this year, and will highlight milestones across the history of both Patek Philippe and Singapore. Watchmakers and artisans will also be on-site to display their skills and educate inquisitive minds.

The first Watch Art Grand Exhibition took place in 2012, in Dubai. Since then, it has grown in scope and has been held every two years since 2013, attracting tens of thousands; the 2015 edition in London saw 42,500 visitors. These exhibitions have been globally significant events that are not just for fans of Patek Philippe, but offer a deep and layered experience for anyone interested in horology. This year, it is poised to do the same. Admission is free.
