The Macallan’s Distil Your World Collection And The Roca Brothers Create A Whisky Inspired By New York

The latest in The Macallan’s Distil Your World collection is dedicated to the city of New York, undoubtedly one of the most vibrant places in the world. As recorded in a half-hour documentary film, The Macallan Whisky Maker Polly Logan travelled to the Big Apple along with Jose Roca, head chef of the renowned, three-Michelin-starred restaurant El Celler de Can Roca. The pair explored the architecture, arts, and culture found in the city, from the Guggenheim Museum to Little Italy and Chinatown in Manhattan. Along the way, they met with some of the unique, creative personalities that New York attracts: graffiti artist Lady Pink, fashion designer Zero Waste Daniel, sneaker historian Dee Wells, and acclaimed jazz musician Wynton Marsalis.

These experiences allowed Logan, a Scottish native who was visiting New York for the first time, to better understand what makes the city so alive. When asked what flavours came to mind, she said: “Everything has to be uplifting. Inspiring. You know, fresh. Definitely some spice in there!” At the end of the trip, the pair had plenty of notes to take home – Roca for a themed menu, and Logan for a limited-edition whisky.

Distil Your World New York was crafted with the sights, sounds, and flavours of the city in mind. Its rich, amber hue takes after a skyscraper-fronted sunrise. The baseline tasting notes and aromas are apple – naturally – along with raisins, chocolate-covered nuts, maple syrup, toasted waffles, and a side of salted pecans – hearty, energetic, and slightly decadent flavours that speak of streets crowded with people and diverse cuisines. Bottled at 49.5 per cent ABV, it arrives in a white presentation box engraved with a map of New York and is accompanied by a photo book.

The Distil Your World series is one aspect of an ongoing collaboration between The Macallan and El Celler de Can Roca. Previously, the collection visited London, the Spanish city of Jerez, and Scotland.
