The festive season is always special, because they grant us the opportunity to pause, reflect and, of course, celebrate. We raise a toast (or three) to our friends and family, our achievements and our ambitions for the year(s) ahead. Throughout all our celebrations, a few crucial elements serve as the fundamentals: the relationships we build with our loved ones, the memories we create with them, and the traditions that connect us all together. That’s why, whether it was decades ago or today, we enjoy coming together, celebrating and giving presents to each other during the festive season. To commemorate these important moments, The Macallan is debuting a limited-edition festive packaging and bottle for the A Night On Earth In Scotland single malt whisky.
The A Night On Earth In Scotland limited-edition single malt whisky from The Macallan features a collaboration with multi-award-winning artist Erik Madigan Heck. Utilising a mixture of abstract landscapes and still life imagery, Heck has made the Speyside landscapes and the wondrous vistas seen outside The Macallan Estate as the focus on both the bottles and their packaging. The interplay of colours, textures and light also bring to life the rich flavours of The Macallan’s portfolio of whiskies.
The A Night On Earth In Scotland limited-edition single malt whisky also boasts a collaboration with acclaimed illustrator Erica Dorn. Inspired by Hogmanay, the traditional Scottish New Year’s Eve celebrations that is also all about coming together to eat, drink and be merry, Dorn created still life artwork that pays homage to the warm ember hues of The Macallan’s single malt range of whiskies. Shortbread biscuits, which are traditionally gifted and eaten during Hogmanay, are seen in the art and evoke the vanilla sweetness often savoured when enjoying a glass of Macallan. Finally, dried orange and spice are prevalent across Dorn’s work, both of which are enjoyed in equal amounts during Chinese New Year, Hogmanay, and in The Macallan single malt whisky.
In addition, The Macallan also recommends their two core whisky ranges, Double Cask and Sherry Oak, as gifts for the festive season. The Macallan Double Cask 12 Years Old is a single malt whisky, featuring notes of vanilla, sweet oak, spice and a distinctive warmth, as well as candied lemon citrus and smooth fudge flavours. This is all thanks to the years they spend maturing in sherry seasoned American and European oak casks. Meanwhile, The Macallan Double Cask 15 Years Old is matured in curated, handcrafted American and European oak casks that are seasoned with dry Oloroso sherry. The whisky has a sweeter, warmer flavour, comprising aromas of dried fruit and butterscotch as well as notes of apple, chocolate, smooth oak, and spice.
Meanwhile, The Macallan Sherry Oak whisky is predominantly matured in sherry seasoned European oak casks – which are carefully selected from Jerez, Spain – compared to American oak casks. This results in the rich, fruity and full-bodied ‘new make’ spirit transforming into a single malt whisky that is timeless, full of flavour, and features notes of ginger and spice.
