The Hotel Telegraph Singapore Blends Luxury And History Seamlessly

Amid the skyscrapers of Singapore’s Central Business District and the frenzy of everyone rushing to clock-in to work on-time, there is a stately four-storey, five-star luxury hotel. If you’re not careful, you may even miss it. But once the welcoming team of the Hotel Telegraph, Singapore greets you, takes your bags and walks you to reception, you won’t forget it. Located on 35 Robinson Road, the hotel boasts 134 bedrooms and suites, a rooftop bar and terrace, all-day dining, among many others, all in an historic building built in 1927 and accorded conservation status in 2000. From the attentive concierge to the friendly housekeeping team, all staff members of the Hotel Telegraph will do their utmost to ensure your stay is not only wonderful but also difficult to check out from. I certainly found it bittersweet when it was time to leave.

Guests’ comfort and happiness are always top priority for the Hotel Telegraph’s team, and every little gesture speaks volumes. Whether it was The Dining Room front-of-house crew ensuring my meals were to my preferences, or it was the concierge assisting me get my bearings right in the middle of the CBD, I always felt that all my needs and wants were satisfied while under their care. In fact, I would’ve joined the hotel’s regular Communal Cooking Class, where I could’ve levelled-up my culinary skills thanks to the teachings of Executive Chef William Lim—but, alas, I had another appointment pre-booked already. Elsewhere, for those who find it challenging going on holiday because of the necessity in caring for their pets, the Hotel Telegraph offers a unique Paw-cation Package—up to two dogs are allowed to stay with owners in the Balcony Suite on weekends, with welcome amenities for both pets and owners, as well as breakfast included and served at the Pool Deck.

One’s appetites for the finer things in life will also be quenched at the Hotel Telegraph, as was mine. All-day dining is available at The Dining Room on the ground floor, which also features a Lobby Bar, serving coffee by day and cocktails by night. Why wait for your taxi thirsty? And for a drink with a view, head to the 1927 Rooftop Bar. Signature cocktails by award-winning mixologists and delectable bar bites will accompany you as you while the evening and night away in the heart of Singapore’s CBD. Finally, The Dining Room ups the ante on weekends, when it hosts the Weekend Grill & Roast. From Beef Tenderloin, Black Angus Ribeye and Striploin to Tandoori French Poulet Tikka, Duck Leg Confit, USA Pork Tomahawk, and Char Siew Baby Back Ribs, a veritable feast is available at the hotel. And for repeat guests with eclectic taste buds, seafood delights such as Sambal Skate Wing with Cincalok, Whole Sea Bass Bakar Balado, or Baked Cheesy Boston Lobster are also on offer during the Weekend Grill & Roast.

When one says that the Hotel Telegraph, Singapore has a prime location, that statement is further augmented thanks to it being right next to one of the best hawker centres in the city—Lau Pa Sat. Meaning “old market” in the local Hokkien dialect, the hawker centre (or food court, if you prefer) is situated in a restored wet market that dates back more than 150 years ago. Today, it features everything from street food to international cuisine, and from local delicacies to gourmet offerings. Whether it’s for lunch or dinner, you’ll see tourists eating side by side with the white-collar crowd, enjoying a hearty meal with a jug of refreshing beer. It’s a Singaporean experience you just have to try.

If you’re in the mood for a stroll through the city—which I highly recommend—the historic Telok Ayer and Chinatown districts are also nearby the hotel. See firsthand the multi-racial, multicultural dimensions of Singapore by visiting Sri Mariamman Temple, Masjid Jamae, and Buddha Tooth Relic Temple, which are all located within metres of each other on South Bridge Road. Meanwhile, the Merlion, ArtScience Museum and Gardens by the Bay are also a short taxi ride (or a few MRT stops) away from the Hotel Telegraph, Singapore.

The Dining Room at the Hotel Telegraph, Singapore is hosting an Easter Day Special Grill & Roast on 9 April. Available from 1130am to 3pm and 6pm to 10pm, the exclusive menu offers mouth-watering delights such as Black Angus Ribeye or Striploin, Whole French Poulet, Pork Tomahawk, and Lamb Rack French Cap Off, as well as Half-Baked Garlic Butter Boston Lobster, Whole Rainbow Trout or Ikan Bakar Sea Bream.
