The third of The Macallan’s Harmony Collection has arrived in the form of Amber Meadow. The Harmony collection is an annual, limited-release single malt whisky that highlights possibilities and innovation in sustainability. Where previous editions focused on chocolate and coffee, Amber Meadow, on the other hand, has parts of its packaging and labelling made using discarded meadow cuttings, giving it a direct link to the Scottish countryside.
This release is also part of The Macallan’s collaboration with Stella and Mary McCartney. Stella McCartney is a world-famous fashion designer, while her sister Mary is a noted photographer. As children, they spent much of their time living in Scotland, and Amber Meadow invokes some of these happy childhood memories.
Aside from the whisky, the team-up with the McCartneys has also produced TOGETHER: A Collection for The Macallan by Stella and Mary McCartney, an 11-piece lifestyle collection that the sisters designed together. Most of the pieces are inclined towards the dram—hand-sculpted and hand-polished glassware includes tumblers, jugs and an ice bucket, while the ceramics that were decorated using only paints derived from natural materials include a flask, bowls and a set of coasters. A brass tray, napkin weight and a lambswool blanket complete the collection.
As for the whisky itself, The Macallan Whisky Maker Steven Bremner said in a statement: “There is so much to discover with The Macallan Harmony Collection Amber Meadow. It is a single malt redolent of warm meadows and mature barley fields, with a rich, citrus-scented finish. The 100 per cent natural summer evening colour derived from our exceptional sherry-seasoned oak and bourbon casks reflects the richness of the flavour which awaits. On the nose, fresh citrus fruits and honeysuckle are complemented by hints of vanilla, coconut and ripe barley fields. On tasting, notes of oak, lemon, and melon are prominent, accompanied by flavours of classic scone and almond with green tea, before giving way to a rich and sweet long finish.”
Malaysians interested in immersing themselves in this release and collaboration can look forward to an upcoming event in Kuala Lumpur starting 10 January: ‘The Macallan Harmony Collection Experience, Inspired by Nature’, which will be hosted at The Starhill. Aside from the chance to taste the Harmony Collection, guests will have the chance to partake in and personalise their own nature-inspired crafting experience. The event will also be moving to the Gurney Plaza, Penang, starting 28 February.
For a more casual approach to The Macallan’s Harmony Collection, selected establishments across Kuala Lumpur and Johor Bahru will be serving curated cocktails from 8 January to 29 February, and in Penang from 26 February to 30 April.
