For this season’s release, longtime artistic director of Hermès’ men’s universe Véronique Nichanian constructs a spring-summer collection that liberates the body with open-worked pieces. Nichanian—whose two-decade-long position at Hermès has earned her the reputation of “designing clothes for the thinking man”—fuses innovative cuts, colour nuances and superimposition in a seasonal collection that leads to “the silhouette coming alive with the clothes we inhabit”.
Thus, the Hermès collection for men in spring proposes loose-fitting short-sleeved shirts, tank tops in white wrinkled fabric and wide-leg trousers with elastic waists. Much of the collection is optimised to indulge the play of light. “Just as light plays with space, creating shadows and tracing patterns, here it caresses the skin and the reversible leathers revealing transparencies, disclosing subtle layering and relief effects of materials.” In an example, the interplay of light brings forth the flair of a shirt cut from twill scarf, revealing contrasts between silk, cotton, technical fabrics and cashmere.
In much the same way, colours run the gamut of greys to blues, with steam, ice, hemp, stone, desert, taupe, terracotta, safe and matcha among the mix. Textural accents arrive via blousons with ribbing and sport calfskin, as well as coloured wave topstitching. Those looking for the effortless smart casual appearance will delight in the two-button jackets with wrinkled pique technical fabric with maxi pocket, or in technical canvas with a striped pattern.
This year’s Hermès spring-summer collection also offers plenty of accessories for those looking to upgrade their looks, with palladium-finished metal and ceramic necklaces as well as bracelets, while rings, bangles and ear jewellery are also designed with titanium. The recognisable Garden Party Voyage bag in H canvas receives the Dancefloor au Faubourg print and Sombrero calfskin, while sandals, also in calfskin, offer the comfort of everyday wear with durability and, of course, that extra dimension of style.
