The Naz Cafe Series At The Apollo Men’s Wellness Center Discusses Mental Health Issues And The Best Ways To Take Care Of Yours

The Apollo Men’s Wellness Center at The Starhill is a cross between a one-stop men’s grooming centre and an upscale wellness clinic with a solution for both physical and mental health. Co-founded by Dr. Nadzri Mokhtar, the store offers numerous services to aid men in their quest for optimum health and well-being.

Grooming and physical wellness aside, Dr. Mokhtar has added the newly launched Naz Cafe Series to the company’s portfolio to address the importance of mental health among Malaysian men. The first event of the series—Apollo The Complete Man—featured Dr. Tariq Jagmag, a 15-year expert in Psycho-Neuro-Endocrine-Immunology. His studies in immunology have facilitated his helping many doctors with their patients worldwide to recover from anxiety, depression, and the after effects of Covid-19.

In this series, Dr. Jagmag spoke about exploring the gut-brain connection—how our gut microbiome influences mental health and understanding the autonomic nervous system. According to him, some men are silently suffering from anxiety and depression caused by physical issues such as stroke, prostate cancer, heart disease, diabetes, and erectile dysfunction—some developed from the Covid-19 infection.

“Covid-19 affected a lot of men globally. The after-effects and Long Covid-19 symptoms disrupted their physical health, which has led to mental health issues like anxiety and depression,” said Dr. Jagmag, who also helped develop numerous medication to aid with the side effects of Covid-19 and the vaccines.

Dr. Jagmag said that anxiety and depression in men often go undiagnosed and untreated as they feel reluctant to seek help. “I strongly encourage men to seek psychological help when in need. I’ve been conducting seminars and producing reading materials to spread this awareness, giving them the courage to open up,” he said. He added that anxiety happens to the best of us, sometimes in the middle of the day. Therefore, one should practice breathing exercises to relieve the symptoms temporarily.

The session was followed by a short breathwork workshop conducted by Professor Maurizio Rosini, the head of marketing and communications at Alzette University in France. He is an expert in men’s personal development and mental well-being. “Stress can lead to mental health like anxiety, ADHD, and depression. Whenever you feel worked up, do this breathing exercise,” Professor Rosini advised.

We were instructed to shut our eyes, inhale very slowly for 10 seconds, and then exhale with the same speed and time, repeating this 10 times. The method worked and we felt instant calmness. “There are plenty of exercises we can do to relieve stress. We must trust the method and seek professional help when needed,” Dr. Jagmag said.

Beyond the bricks and mortar, The Apollo Men’s Wellness Center offers customers expert consultation to address various mental issues. “We believe that our treatments and services would do great for the body and mind at our one-stop wellness centre,” said Dr. Mokhtar.

Dr. Mokhtar also runs NARA Clinic in Bangsar. “Our Hormone Replacement Therapy is the best way to curb mental health too, especially for men,” said Mb Mushy, Marketing and Administration Manager of NARA Clinic.
