Three centuries ago, Louis XV was the King of France, Bach and Handel were taking music to new heights, and Daniel Gabriel Fahrenheit had invented the mercury thermometer and was about to propose a new temperature scale. It was also when a certain Rémy Martin, a winegrower in Cognac, France, founded his own cognac house. The world has become a markedly different place, but the house of Rémy Martin has persisted.
The Rémy Martin 300th Anniversary Coupe is a cognac that encapsulates this rich history. Its base is the house’s Réserve Perpétuelle (Perpetual Reserve), which has been tended to by four generations of Cellar Masters. As such, the 300th Anniversary Coupe is directly linked to the three preceding Anniversary Coupe expressions, which began with the 250th anniversary. The current Cellar Master, Baptiste Louiseau, has infused the 300th Anniversary with his own contemporary style, and will ensure that some of it is put aside for the next iteration.
Consisting exclusively of eaux-de-vie from Grande Champagne, a cru that some would label as the most prestigious, and a deep amber in colour, the 300th Anniversary Coupe promises to combine structure, robustness and refinement, presenting an exotic cocktail of fruits, woods, leather, spices, floral notes, and more on both nose and palate. It is presented in a bottle that is shaped after the one created in 1974, for the 250th Anniversary Coupe, engraved with lines that recall the javelin of the house’s iconic centaur logo. Each bottle is numbered—only 6,724 are made available worldwide, never to be re-created—and is delivered in a finely crafted wooden presentation box that pays homage to the barrels it was aged in.
The Rémy Martin 300th Anniversary Coupe was showcased locally at an exclusive dinner at Boathouse By The Lake in Ampang, Kuala Lumpur. The history of Rémy Martin was projected on to the domed ceiling of the dining venue, while dinner was curated by Chef Yongzhi of Eat & Cook. Only 84 bottles of the 300th Anniversary Coupe will be sold in Malaysia.
