The New Dyson WashG1 Is A Must-Have For Every Homeowner To Attain Sparkling Floors

Dyson is taking home-cleaning to a new level with the latest WashG1, a wet cleaner built to leave your hard floors spotless. After sealing its position as the manufacturer of some of the best vacuum cleaners around, the WashG1 is the brand’s first wet cleaner designed specifically for hard floors.

“The WashG1 employs a triple-pronged attack of agitation, separation and hydration—instead of suction. To make disposal easier, it adds water, rubs the dirt with rollers, and then separates the waste into dry and wet categories,” explains Asaph Ooi, Head of Product Development at Dyson. The two microfibre rollers for wet spills are located underneath and a plate presses into them to extract soiled water. These rollers can reach tight spots and edges too. Upon the launch of the WashG1, I had the opportunity to test the WashG1 and was impressed.

Wet spillages of any consistency are no problem for the WashG1. With just one pass, the dirt and liquid will vanish entirely. This also applies to dried-on stains that have been there for days. However, some tough stains might need several passes for the marks to go away, and that’s also when the ‘Max’ mode comes in handy. “The ‘Max’ mode is a result of our discovery,” Ooi says. “Adding more water is the most effective way to address ingrained spillages. Also, I would say that this mode is quieter than the typical vacuum cleaner in terms of noise levels.”

There are three distinct hydration modes to choose from, depending on the type of dirt or liquid you are dealing with. I worked with the first level throughout as the WashG1 is powerful enough for regular cleaning. The two water tanks—one for clean water and the other for dirty water—are clipped to the handle. With just a litre of water, the machine can cover an area of up to 290 sq m. To avoid spills, the tanks are individually sealed with a screw top. To handle hair and debris, there are additional secondary rollers with large nylon bristles, similar to those found in vacuum cleaners. The solid waste is drawn out by a mesh inside and directed into a small tray located in the upper section of the cleaner head.

The separation of wet and dry is effective, and it simplifies disposing of the waste. Instead of attempting to flush everything down the toilet, the dirty water can be poured down the kitchen sink and the dry waste can be tapped into a bin.

There is also a self-clean mode: the WashG1 uses a brush bar to remove any remaining solid debris from the rollers; clean water is run through the mechanism and over the rollers; and a no-water run is performed to slightly dry everything off. The rollers on the cleaner head can be easily removed for deep cleaning. The water tanks are also detachable with an easy-to-clean design that has no sharp edges where dirt can collect. I could easily fit my entire hand inside for easier cleaning.

Overall, the WashG1 is very impressive. As Dyson’s first-ever wet cleaner, the WashG1 seems promising as I can clean my entire home effectively with just one full charge. “The WashG1 is one of our proudest projects,” Ooi says. “The team put everything they got into this technology, hoping it will be worth the investment for you.”

The Dyson WashG1 is priced at RM3,399 and can be purchased at all Dyson stores and online.
