Now ongoing until 2 January 2025 in Pavilion Kuala Lumpur, the Nature of Time exhibition showcases the very best of Grand Seiko—its outstanding values of Japanese craftsmanship, its rich heritage of watchmaking, and the very timepieces that are beloved the world over. The exhibition is hosted in collaboration with Sincere Fine Watches, and is located just outside the retailer’s boutique in the mall.
The snowy landscapes and abundance of natural beauty of Iwate prefecture provides plenty of inspiration for Grand Seiko and its designers and watchmakers, and exhibition guests will be immersed in the serene surrounds and majestic environment of the brand’s home. Interactive digital displays and extensive information will provide substantial insights into why nature plays such a crucial role in Grand Seiko’s ethos and watchmaking.
Guests will also be able to check out the manually wound Evolution 9 dress watch SLGW003 in the exhibition, as well as other models from the Evolution 9 collection, and two breathtaking Kodo Constant-Force Tourbillon timepieces. Other highlights include larger-than-life displays of the 9R Spring Drive movement, and watch face and hands displays that show how much detail goes into every facet of a Grand Seiko watch.
In addition, Grand Seiko and Sincere Fine Watches are hosting a Chef’s Table Experience as part of the exhibition. Guests will be able to savour a four-course Japanese menu (from RM198 per person), featuring fresh ingredients flown in from Japan and providing a different (and delicious) dimension of understanding authentic Japanese craftsmanship. From the Sweetened Boiled Ayu and Japanese Shishitou Peppers to the Chutoro Sashimi, as well as the Premium selection of sushi, every morsel of Japanese excellence—as prepared by the culinary team at Kinobu and Sushi Oribe—will deepen your appreciation for the art and heart of Japanese traditions and nature.
During the launch event of the Nature of Time exhibition, Grand Seiko master watchmaker Junya Kamijo held a live demonstration of a 9R Spring Drive calibre assembly. The technology is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, and Kamijo’s precision and speed in his movements when working on the calibre wowed guests who witnessed it. Also in attendance was Kiyotaka Sakai, designer of the Evolution 9 series, who explained why the life force of the White Birch tree—which Iwate prefecture has the largest concentration of, in the entire Japan—and Lake Suwa—which is located nearby Grand Seiko’s headquarters—both inspire him and his colleagues immensely.
“This event is a testament to Grand Seiko’s commitment to both our heritage and our future,” said Ida Idris-Low, managing director of Grand Seiko Asia-Pacific, in a statement. “The Nature of Time exhibition celebrates our passion for craftsmanship and precision, inviting our guests to experience the brand’s spirit through nature’s beauty and horological excellence. We are thrilled to share these iconic pieces and engage our guests in an experience that brings our brand’s spirit to life.”
