When it comes to whisky with a regal pedigree, few names carry the weight of Royal Salute. Born in 1953 to mark Queen Elizabeth II’s coronation, the brand stands apart by starting where others peak—its blends begin at 21 years old, demonstrating its commitment to aged perfection. Drawing inspiration from royal traditions and monarchical pomp, Royal Salute’s creations are as much about history as they are about craftsmanship. The latest jewel in its crown, quite literally, is the 62 Gun Salute Collection, a trio of whiskies crafted as an homage to the ceremonial gun salutes fired only on the grandest royal occasions.
The architect behind this ambitious collection, master blender Sandy Hyslop, describes it as nothing short of an orchestration of senses. Each sip echoes the thunderous blasts and drifting smoke of the 62 Gun Salute at the Tower of London. Much like the grand ceremony itself, these whiskies are designed to leave a lasting impression.
A power trio

The Original Reserve is a familiar favourite that’s been given a contemporary facelift. Blended from over 50 rare malt and grain whiskies, this multi-award-winning expression is housed in a regal sapphire blue decanter, a nod to the Stuart Sapphire in the Crown Jewels. The whisky is rich and complex, with deep notes of ripe fruits, warm spices, and a finish that lingers with the elegance of a royal procession. With accolades from the International Wine & Spirit Competition (IWSC) and the International Spirits Challenge (ISC), it remains the cornerstone of Royal Salute’s prestige.

And last but not least, completing the trio is the emerald green travel retail exclusive, inspired by the 11 emeralds in the Crown Jewels. Designed for the adventurous palate, it layers tropical fruits like pineapple and mango with sweet vanilla and subtle peat smoke. Hints of orange zest, ginger cake, and toasted oak add depth, while the finish—smoky and enduring—mimics the final embers of a celebratory cannon blast. This one was awarded a Double Gold at the IWC 2024; it’s a dram that refuses to be forgotten.
For those who seek the extraordinary, the Royal Salute 62 Gun Salute Collection is now available in Singapore. The Original Reserve (S$4,000) and American Oak Reserve (S$4,400) can be found at select retailers, including Grand Cru and The Whisky Distillery, or via Pernod Ricard’s VIP platform, Le Cercle; as for the Peated Reserve (US$3,300), it’s exclusive to duty-free boutiques worldwide, a fitting prize for the globetrotting whisky enthusiast.
