On a recent Saturday afternoon, those driving by Farquhar Street in Penang would have noticed a fleet of Porsches converging at Sood by Chef Ton, already one of the most revered restaurants in town. But this was no ordinary motoring meet-up—it was A day with Porsche Malaysia, an exclusive opportunity for guests to test drive cars from the luxury German automobile manufacturer.

Members of the Northern Supercar Club, Robb Report Malaysia readers, and other guests were invited to discover the EV lineup of Porsche models—which included the new all-electric Macan and the Taycan—as well as the Cayenne. Guests also sat down for a presentation on the history of Porsche, discovering how the unique Porsche driving experience stemmed from the technological pioneering spirit of their 911 series.
The Taycan, presented in the gorgeous Provence shade, utilises an innovative 800-volt electrical architecture, enabling it to charge from 10 to 80 per cent in 18 minutes at an 800-volt DC charging station with maximum charging power. It also features two electric motors that deliver an output of 408PS, with an acceleration of zero to 100km/h in 4.8 seconds (with launch control).
The all-electric Macan 4 also utilises an 800-volt system just like the Taycan, and boasts an impressive range of 536 to 641 kilometres on a single charge. And for families, the Cayenne is also a worthy contender. The sports car for five includes a turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 engine that delivers 353PS and 500Nm of torque.

“As an owner of an American EV, who has also tested several Chinese EVs, I must say that Porsche’s EVs offer a far superior and more seamless driving experience,” said Aaron Tan, a guest, after he experienced the line-up of Porsche’s EVs. Meanwhile, Dexter Chuah shared that “the Cayenne is the perfect balance of comfort, luxury, and performance. Its intelligent all-wheel-drive system and 353PS made every curve feel effortless.”

Also on showcase was the TAG Heuer Carrera x Porsche collection, where experts guided guests through the unique features of each model, while explaining how the collection blends racing heritage with cutting-edge watchmaking. This included the TAG Heuer Carrera Chronosprint x Porsche Rallye, which honours Porsche’s historic 1965 Monte Carlo Rally prowess and the legendary Porsche 911.

After the test drive sessions concluded, it was time to head upstairs to the SO-OD Bar. Here, guests enjoyed glasses of Ruinart Blanc de Blancs and Volcan de mi Tierra Reposado, along with exquisitely crafted canapés such as Thai fish cakes and deep-fried banana coated with savoury peanut sauce. They then danced the night away to electrifying hits performed by the Paparazzi Band.
